Playing with the "Dark Side"

One of my favorite things to photograph is food.

The storytelling opportunities with food are limitless in my mind. Probably because we all have such visceral memories associated with meals shared or favorite recipes and dishes. It’s no surprise that working with food clients- from brand identity to packaging to photography and styling- is one of my greatest joys.

Because I enjoy working with food so much, I’m also always looking for ways to expand my skillset and hone my craft.

When I saw that Kimberly from The Little Plantation was doing a food photography challenge on Instagram, I thought “what the heck.” I don’t usually participate in challenges like that on Instagram, but it’s been a nice way to practice styling and shooting things out of my usual norm. For the first round, I decided to experiment with shooting in a moodier style. I’ve always been drawn to moody photography, but my own style tends to be a little lighter and brighter. So far I’m loving the results + this time to play! What do you think… should I keep experimenting with “the dark side”???
