Don't spend a dime on branding design until you have these 3 things figured out
You know all that advice that says "Get a logo! Hire a designer!" as the very, very first thing to do when starting a biz?
I'm calling BS on that. I'm a designer and photographer who will gladly tell you to skip hiring a professional for graphics and photos until you have a few other things figured out first. (And also why I opened the template and stock photo shops)
Otherwise, sorry (not sorry) to say, you'll end up wasting money that you could be better invested in other parts of your biz.
Branding is important, and no doubt will set you apart, but before you spend a dime on it make sure you have these 3 things figured out first:
A defined market or niche.
You need to know EXACTLY who you're talking to. I believe in having flexibility when figuring out your Ideal Customer Avatar- especially when you're first starting out. But when you get to the point of investing higher $$$ into branding, this part of your biz needs to be nailed down.
The exact problem or pain point you're solving
Those people you'd LOVE to have as clients? What are they struggling with most? How are you uniquely qualified to solve this problem and turn them into your biggest fans?
A viable product or service
Once you know who you're talking to, and a problem you can solve for them, how are you packaging it up? Is it selling? Why or why not? Test, test test, until you know you're offering something that people want. You may think you have the best idea in the world, but the only way to know if it's resonating is if people are buying it. And yes, this is a nuanced process where you have to figure out how to put the right product solving the right problem in front of the right people. But that is why you test and iterate, my friend.
What if you don't have this figured out yet, but you still want to look profesh?
I've got you. This is the exact reason why I created the template shop and stock photo shop. So that you can create high-quality, professionally designed assets while you're figuring all this other junk out.
Because you shouldn't have to invest money before you (or your business) is ready.
